Sports massage or deep tissue?

Sports massage is not just for sports people or those who are active, it is extremely effective in easing pain and tension caused by poor posture, desk work and life's stresses - if you are suffering with a specific area of pain in the body - like shoulder/neck tension or lower back pain it is recommended to book sports massage. Deep Tissue massage uses long firm strokes and targeted pressure to relax the body and ease tired and aching bodies. If you are still unsure what you need please get in touch via email or whatsapp for advice on which treatment is best suited.

What actually happens during a sports massage?

Sports massage uses cooperative techniques such as stretching and active movements while direct pressure is being applied to a soft tissue, tools may also be used in your treatment - these include the IASTM blading and dry cupping therapy - these tools are used to cause sterile inflammation to encourage the start of the body's natural healing process, combined with active movement of the tissues they also help to restore range of motion and stretch the tissues.

How long does the bruising from the dry cupping last?

Anywhere between 5-20 days is a normal length of time.

How many appointments will I need?

The amount of treatments you may need depends on what is being treated, how long you've had the issue, what has caused it and your body's own healing process. Your recovery may also require you to perform stretches or make adjustments to your life between appointments.

What is maintenance massage?

Maintenance massages are for everyone, they can ensure your pain does not return or is much less severe, patients also schedule maintenance massages as a preventative measure. Particularly useful for those in manual jobs and those with a very active lifestyle. Common intervals are 4, 6 or 8 weeks, but some may prefer fortnightly. The frequency in which you have massages may change depending on training, stress and any other changes in your life.

Why is pricing different in each location?

The variation of pricing depends on the individual costs associated with each location, the quality of the treatment you receive along with the products used is identical in each location.

Do I need to consult my doctor before a treatment?

Some health conditions require medical permission from a health care professional before you can receive a massage treatment, others may stop you from being able to receive treatment completely or restrict the areas that can be massaged. You will complete a consultation form before your appointment that will disclose any health conditions. Please get in touch via email or whatsapp if you have any concerns over your eligibility for treatment.

Should I bring anything with me?

It can be useful to bring relevant medical documents, such as x-rays, if you have had a recent injury/surgery/change to your health. It's also a good idea to bring a bottle of water with you.

What should I wear during my treatment?

If you are not comfortable wearing underwear during your treatment it is fine to wear shorts. You will always be covered by a towel for your modesty, any area of the body that is not being treated in that moment will be covered by a towel.

Will I be sore after my sports or deep tissue massage?

Everyone reacts differently, it is normal to experience soreness and sometimes mild bruising after a sports or deep tissue massage. This usually lasts for 1-3 days and can appear up to three days after a deeper treatment.

Can I exercise after treatment?

It is best to plan any strenuous activities around your massage, it is advised to wait 48 hours post treatment, exercising before the recommended time period has passed decreases the efficacy of your treatment and may worsen and prolong the body's recovery from deeper treatments.
